Searching for Your Second Home on National Plan for Vacation Day

Today is National Plan for Vacation Day, a day established by the US Travel Association to encourage American workers to plan ahead in order to make the most of the vacation days they earn by travelling. One way to prepare for vacations in years to come is by finding the second home of your dreams in your favorite destination. Imagine spending time-off annually in the same special place, a tradition to look forward to throughout the year, and memories that you will cherish and grow with each trip.

Your home away from home should foster a sense of personal relaxation and sanctuary. After all, a vacation is meant to be an escape from the busyness of everyday life. For you, this could mean turning off your phone and relaxing by the pool, going out for a fishing expedition in new waters, learning the history and culture of the area you're visiting, playing a round of 18 holes on a challenging golf course, or becoming a true tourist by exploring the latest sights & attractions. Knowing how you like to unwind is key to discovering your ideal vacation home. Along the Grand Strand, there is truly something for everyone and every lifestyle. Let's explore a few of the cities here to find the location that best suits your vacation style.

The low-key, laidback atmosphere of Pawleys Island allows you to slow down and take a step back to fall into the easy rhythm of island living. Our community's distinct character and lowcountry charm have made it a refreshing location for new visitors and a traditional spot for generations every summer. The beautiful natural amenities, perfectly manicured golf courses, and locally owned shops and restaurants immediately make you feel at home here. From resorts like Litchfield by the Sea to the private community of DeBordieu Colony, you will find a like-minded sense of peace throughout Pawleys Island.

Murrells Inlet is the fisher's paradise. Whether you want to fish along the Garden City seashore, board a boat with an experienced captain to deeper waters, camp out at Huntington Beach State Park, admire the preservation of wildlife and artwork at Brookgreen Gardens, or dine on the specialities of the "seafood capital of South Carolina", this quaint town will capture your heart as soon as you experience the mezmerizing marsh views.

If activity, experiences, and adventure are your top priorities on vacation, Myrtle Beach will keep you on the move. In addition to the gorgeous Atlantic oceanfront, you will find entertainment hubs like The Market Common, Broadway at the Beach, and Barefoot Landing which offer dining, shopping, shows, and more. Myrtle Beach is also a world famous family destination. Mini golf courses, the SkyWheel, and EdVenture Children's Museum are spots that little ones will love; meanwhile, older kids and teens may enjoy one of the many ropes courses and ziplines, Rockin' Jump trampoline park, or Shark Wave Park an aquatic sports complex. For those with a competitive nature, TopGolf or Dave & Buster's will be a hit. Being in Myrtle Beach will keep you at the center of excitement for every age and interest.

Wherever you choose to call home here, a member of our team would love the opportunity to help you find your second home or primary residence here along the South Carolina coast. Explore classic beach homes, oceanfront condos, golf community homesites, interval ownerships, and more with an expert sales associate who knows the local area and understands our market. Please visit our Contact or Agents page to reach out and learn more about life along the Grand Strand.

More than just a game, golf develops skill sets, challenges players, and brings people together on the course. Whether you have a passion for golf or just enjoy living along the links, the Grand Strand offers countless golf courses and golf neighborhoods with beautiful views. Live Peace: Springtime in Pawleys Island

Today is the first official day of spring! With the change of seasons, there comes countless more reasons to love the Pawleys Island area during this special time of year. Take a look at just a few of our sales team's favorite things about springtime in our home.

Many residents love seeing the return of plants and wildlife that accompanies the arrival of spring here. Claire Yarborough can't wait to see "Dogwoods and Azaleas ladened with blooms heralding the new season." Denise Talbert loves to watch the birds return and empty her feeders.

In addition to welcoming flora and fauna, Spring Break brings many new faces to our area as well as returning friends and family. It also provides a great opportunity to take advantage of all the local amenities and indulge in an exciting "staycation" at home. Kat Loftus loves seeing all the Spring Break families who visit in March and April. She also looks forward to sunrise Easter services along the beach.

Warm and sunny weather gives residents the opportunity to spend more time outdoors and on the water partaking in the many aquatic activities available here like fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, or boating. Lindy Mickle looks forward to springtime because "flounder fishing is coming up!" Living along or near the waterfront, you can enjoy being spectator of these activities too. Paul Yarborough likes this time of year because the marsh grass greens and he can watch northbound boats on the Intracoastal Waterway from his home.

Everywhere you look, you will find residents out and about enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings here. Shawn Roper's favorite thing about spring is seeing this increased movement throughout our community. "There are more walkers and joggers, more bikes, more golf carts, each sharing a neighborly greeting as they pass by," he describes.

With spring in the air, eating and drinking outdoors becomes a must. Exterior living spaces like porches and decks often become a greater gathering space than dining rooms during the spring and summer months. Many local restaurants also offer patio seating and outdoor dining options so you can continue enjoying the fresh air and sunshine even at meal times. Lindy Mickle looks forward to the annual opening of one of her favorite outdoor spots, DeBordieu Colony's Gazebo Bar.

Spring is truly an incredible time of year to spend in the Pawleys Island area. From days on the beach or time on the river, everyone can find a way to enjoy the gorgeous surroundings we are blessed with in this place where we live. Peace Sotheby's International Realty at SEWE 2019

Over this past weekend, February 15th through 17th, the 2019 Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) took place in Charleston, South Carolina. The annual event taking place over the course of three days is defined as a "celebration of wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, sporting demonstrations, food, drink and the people who honor them all." To learn more about SEWE, visit their website: https://sewe.com/about/.  For this year's event, our DeBordieu office hosted a booth in the tent at Brittlebank Park.

Over the three days of the event, members of the DeBordieu sales team volunteered and hosted the booth in shifts. During their time at the booth, they engaged in conversations with attendees about DeBordieu Colony, its unparallelled natural beauty, its finest amenities, and the unique lifestyle and charm that make it one of the East Coast's most extraordinary private communities. In addition to learning about DeBordieu, attendees could enter for the chance to win a hammock. At the end of each day, a name was drawn to select the winner of the hammock. Watch the video below for a quick recap of our time at SEWE 2019 including a picture of Saturday's hammock winner with agent Geoff Groat:

LIVE PEACE: Thanksgiving Thoughts and Traditions from Our Team

As Thanksgiving is celebrated this Thursday, our team has taken time this week to reflect on cherished holiday memories with loved ones, delicious recipes, and treasured things in our lives. Today, we share our thoughts and traditions with you as we look forward to this special time of year:

Pictured below in their first family portrait, Lauren Fournier has an extra special, "little" reason she is thankful for this Thanksgiving: "I'm thankful for family, friends and our new baby this year."

Shawn Roper deeply appreciates living in a place as wonderful as the Pawleys Island area: "I am thankful for my family, friends, and this community. This is truly a magical place and we are truly blessed to call this area home."

Denise Talbert has several reasons why the Thanksgiving holiday is one of her favorite days: "I'm a big fan of giving thanks and especially when I gather with my mother's family on Thanksgiving. My mom is one of 8, and they are all fabulous cooks. I enjoy the time with my aunts, uncles, and cousins catching up since it's the one day most of us gather together to celebrate."

If you are cooking the meal for guests this year, try this delightful dish shared by Tracey Rogers: Mushroom, Leek, and Gruyere Bread Pudding. This is sure to make everyone at the table say "so yummy!" You can find her customized version of the recipe below:

Games, sports, wins, and losses are what comes to mind for Kat Loftus when reminiscing about her family's Thanksgiving traditions:"Our competitive, extended family has a Family Thanksgiving Olympics that lasts from Wednesday to Sunday of Thanksgiving week. Any kind of game where a winner can be determined is allowed."

Hampton Peace is grateful for all the individuals he sees and works with every day: "I am thankful for my family, friends, co-workers and all of the wonderful folks that put up with me and my idiosyncrasies on a daily basis."

Of course, Thanksgiving would not be complete without a turkey! Lindy Mickle shared this photo of a favorite holiday memory with her adorable daughter dressed as the occasion's iconic bird.

Whatever your traditions may be and however you are celebrating this year, we are thankful that we get to share life with you! We hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday filled with family, friends, food, and peace. Happy Thanksgiving from the Peace Sotheby's International Realty team!

LIVE PEACE: Fall for the Lowcountry Lifestyle

Living along the South Carolina coast has many benefits year round. Many people, who have fond vacation memories often find themselves thinking of living here and spending endless days along the sand of the countless beautiful beaches. The Lowcountry has many beautiful sights and incredible experiences away from the shores on sunny summer days. As autumn months are here, we want to share those favorite things we think people should experience this season. They are unique and have a "je ne sais qoi" that can only be captured by those who call it home.

Reflecting the gorgeous warm reds and vivid oranges that you see on changing leaves, we are able to witness truly magnificent displays of vibrant color each time the day begins or comes to an end. Autumn sunrises or sunsets are best viewed near your favorite body of water, whether that's the ocean, the Waccamaw River, Pawleys Creek, or our saltmarshes. Sales associate Jennifer Nichols describes her favorite spots to watch a sunset "on the beach or by boat from the Garden City Point". Sitting around a backyard fire-pit with amazing views and great friends is the ideal end to any southern autumn day.

If you are like our agents Tom Nichols and Toby Avant, football is your idea of an Autumn favorite. Football season in South Carolina is a special time of year marked with social gatherings and hospitality. Whether you enjoy cheering on favorite teams from the stadium, gearing up for the game at a tailgate, talking up your team against a rival, or throwing parties for the games in the comfort of your home, you are bound to be joined by neighbors who have as much passion for the game as you do. There is no problem finding people in South Carolina to watch football with!

When thinking about fall images of the lowcountry, sales associate Susan Baldwin immediately pictured beautiful kitchens with space for gathering together loved ones for home cooked meals. Our local cuisine is ideal for fall as South Carolina is famous for an array of delicious comfort foods: grits, BBQ, chicken bog, fried chicken, mac'n'cheese, pecan pie, etc. This list could go on and on! Living along the coast also brings the added culinary benefits of fresh seafood to signature area dishes. No matter what type of food you are in the mood for, you are bound to find an array of wonderful places to dine. Our team's favorite local restaurants include: Bistro 217, Frank's and Frank's Outback, and Rustic Table. Sales associate Shawn Roper says "The restaurants are all great around here. Try them ALL." Meals are ultimately about bringing people together, so no matter if you stay in or go out, time around the dinner table is guaranteed to bring great conversations and lasting memories.

One of locals' favorites include fishing. This is a traditional activity and sport that takes you onto or into the water depending on whether you want to fish in a boat or pick oysters from the creeks. Sales associates Geoff Groat and Perry Peace can often be found on their days off casting in the creeks of DeBordieu or boating in North Inlet. More than a hobby, time spent fishing is a way to truly get away from life's stresses: no other tasks at hand, no phones or technology and no distractions from the beauty of the nature around you.

Living in a vacation destination affords you the rare opportunity to enjoy tourist-favorite attractions in the off-season, which means less crowds and more time to enjoy these special places. Sales associate Anthony Ciccone's favorite place to visit is the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, which hosts several seasonal events this time of year. The boardwalk offers restaurants, bars, shops, live music, and water activities. Many of our agents named Brookgreen Gardens as their favorite local attraction which also resides in Murrells Inlet. Perhaps one of the most beautiful times of year to see Brookgreens Gardens is in December during their Nights of a Thousand Candles. Last but not least, golf is a big attraction that draws people to our area as well.  We have many courses to play for all types of golfers and if you like the game of golf, this is a good place to test your game and enjoy the views.

The lowcountry lifestyle offers a little bit of everything and something for everyone to enjoy. In every season, the Pawleys Island area provides marvelous landscapes, an incredible sense of community, and so much more. If you are interested in calling our area your home, please contact us to talk with one of our agents and learn more about why you would love living here.
